"MACE," "PEPPER," "GINGER," and "CINNAMON" are painted in black block letters on each of the four sections.
The fruitwood containers are now brittle. The painted surface has worn and delaminated in many places.

This unusual spice box is columnar and turned into four separate containers that screw together in any order. Whichever container is upper-most is sealed by a shallow lid that screws in place. Each container bears the name of its intended contents. The lettering appears to be painted in black onto a thick painted surface that has delaminated in places as paper might.
