Comments

The plate is very finely rendered in “encre de chine” (i.e., "ink of China"), also called grisaille (i.e., painted in shades of gray) or pencil-work (referencing the fine lines that create three-dimensional images).  It has a large floral composition in the center and diapering around the booge, namely the inner curved wall of the plate well.  The plate rim has four repeats.  Gilt lines punctuate the plate, and some gilding highlights the compositions.
