Comments
This smooth brim plate, with a bead running around the edge on the underside, has an "X" added to the three touchmarks of the pewterer. That letter designation indicated "quality" on the part of the maker, usually signalling a high tin content of the metal alloy, typically in the neighborhood of 92%. The hole in the center may have been caused by excessive heat at some time. Pewter has a low melting temperature, making it prone to such accidents.
