Comments
The 9-inch plate with a single reed around the rim is marked by Townsend & Compton, who exported great quantities of pewter to the United States. The plate bears their touchmarks and four hallmarks, although all are difficult to discern. The booge (the rounded bottom edge of the plate) has been hammered, a stage in making the plate that compressed and hardened the metal after casting.
The plate appears to be the same as accession nos. 1971.871 and 1971.876.
