Comments
One of many identical pewter plates made by the important London partnership of Townsend and Compton in the Historic Odessa collection, this and the other plates suggest that the Corbit or Wilson families may have once owned a large set of the plates. This example has a paper "jelly" label attached to the bottom, but the label surface is so abraded that whatever message was on it can no longer be read.
The plate has a hammered booge, as characteristic of the high-quality wares from this partnership of pewterers.
