The rim has split away from the inner edge of the plate approximately half way around the plate.

Comments
This 9-inch plate is a rare and late survival of an example with a smooth brim. The brim (or rim) is relatively narrow one-inch wide, a feature usually associated with New England plates. A bead runs around the outside of the rim on the underside.
