Comments

The slip-cast pitcher, made of a glazed white earthenware, had a second firing of a thin coating of a gold metallic oxide to give it a copper luster finish.  Blue enamel highlights, picking out molded scrolls, were then added.  The relief-cast imagery on each side shows a man and woman dancing.  Few details are evident, but the man wears a cape and a plumed hat.  The scrolled handle and high spout are typical of mid-19th century pitchers.
