Comments
The cylindrical candle socket with a double mid-rib, a scalloped bobeche (to catch candle drippings), the flared "trumpet" turning above a thick ring, and the scalloped base link the design of this pair of candlesticks to another variation, also made in Birmingham at about the same time (see accession no. 1959.3549). The pair has a mor elaborately shaped base with cusps or points between the scallops. Those points continue the edges of an octagonal dome in the base.
