Comments
The large magnifying glass has a cylindrical handle with a hanging ring at the end. A hooped strap of metal holds the magnifying glass in place. The screws holding the strap to the handle are deeply blued, a finish coating that prevents oxidation. No markings help identify where and when this magnifier was made. It may have been bought by Rodney Sharp for his personal use.
An early accession record identifies the metal as bell metal, which seems to be incorrect. Nickel alloy can exhibit the slightly warm-colored areas of tarnish visible on this magnifier.
