Condition Notes

The mirrored glass is a replacement; the backboards are missing.  The appliqués at the top of each side are probably replacements. Other small repairs have been made to the scalloped appliqués.

Bequest in 1942 of Dr. and Mrs. J. Newberry Reynolds to the The David Wilson Mansion, Inc.

Looking glasses with highly ornate scalloped borders were made for several decades.  Larger looking glasses tended to respond to changes in style; smaller glasses less so.  This glass falls somewhere in the middle.  The applied pediment is made of highly figured mahogany.
