2017.12The body cracked into two pieces and has been glued and reassembled with two staples. The lid has three adjoining chips out of the rim.
The donor stated that the jar and an accompanying plate (accession no. 2017.11) was purchased at a sale of what was understood to be Corbit family items.
The bulbous jar is decorated with delicately rendered birds and flowers set into two large ovoid panels with a rectangular and a circular panel in between. The background is a red with gilded filagree. White and red stylized petals encircle the base. The lid is similarly decorated with two large panels and a finial shaped as a square knot.
