Comments
The lap desk is made of two sections hinged together. When opened, the lid and case form an inclined writing surface, which is covered in a reddish-purple velvet. Each part of the writing surface can be opened to access storage spaces below. In the front, the interior is fitted with two squares at either end of a section for pens. One square retains as molded clear glass inkwell with white metal alloy lid.
The outside of the desk lid is decorated with machined gouge-carving of stylized quarter fans in the lower corners and stylized drapery across the top. A decorated brass plaque in the center has space for an engraved name or initials. A similarly decorated escutcheon is mounted on the front of the desk.
