Comments
This jar has pronounced scribe lines encircling the cylindrical body near at at the shoulders. The lower line bisect three repeats of a frond motif having three leaves above four. The jar bears the maker's mark of Richard Clinton Remmey, a member of the Remmey family of stoneware potters who were engaged in the business in New York from 1735, and in Philadelphia and Baltimore in the 19th century. The New York branch of the business remained through much of the 20th century. Remmey became principal of the Philadelphia pottery in 1859. After his death in 1904, the business became Richard C. Remmey & Sons.
The inside of this jar is coated with a brown glaze.
