Comments
Many variations exist of the general design of this candlestick. Salient features include the cylindrical candle socket with a mid-rib, and a scalloped bobeche (to catch candle drippings) the flared "trumpet" turning above a thick ring, and the scalloped base (see accession no. 1959.4055) for a variation). Notable differences lie in the scalloping, which ranges from large, detailed scallops to the nearly uniform examples on this stick. This candlestick has an ejector mechanism that allows the user to remove a candle stub from inside the socket by pressing a button attached to a metal that runs from the base, through the shaft, and to the bottom of the socket.
