Comments
The octagonal tray, probably intended for use at a desk or dressing table, is painted a bright red and covered with complex, finely detailed, geometric decoration arranged as bands and panels. The red and gold colors evoked exotic Asian objects and inspired the general term of "japanning" for this type of object.
