Condition Notes
The maroon coat of paint has fractured on much of the previous paint layers, notably on the front of the tablet crest.
Provenance
The set of six chairs was purchased on October 27, 1979, at a Harry Rudnick and Sons, Inc., auction of household and store furnishings of Mrs. Harrison V. Davis of Odessa. The chairs were probably used by the Davis or Vandergrift families of Odessa.
Comments
The plank-seat tablet top Windsor chairs have a single slat in the back above four turned spindles. The front legs are decoratively turned; the rear legs are plain. Four rounded stretchers or rungs form a box connecting the four legs.
Layers of paint are sufficiently thick to hide all character of the wood. The undersides of the plank seats are also completely painted in maroon.
