Condition Notes
The mahogany stand has been painted green later; use of mahogany indicates that originally it had a clear coating. The later coat of paint appears to have been wiped to suggest wear and age. The underside of the top and the square board at the top of the shaft are painted white. The brass snap is original, and the wood surfaces between the underside of the top and the flat board remain unpainted. Cleats on the underside of the top have additional screws in them but otherwise appear to be original. The top has split with shrinkage.

Comments
The four sides of the single-board top are serpentine with molded edges. The lathe-turned shaft has a column above an urn; collars or rings and a reel below the urn punctuate the turnings. The three cabriole legs end in plain feet with integral pads. Each leg dovetails into the base of the turned shaft. An iron plate on the underside holds them in place. All of the decorative aspects of this stand represent broadly used designs, making geographic origin uncertain. The shape of the top suggests that the stand might have been made in Eastern Massachusetts.
