Comments
This molded soup bowl is decorated in pale blue transfer-printed images of flowers, floral sprays with C scrolls, and pairs of seashells. Without the printed mark on the outside bottom, the bowl would readily be identified as a product of one of the many 19th century Staffordshire potteries. The mark names a London business. A public notice published in the London Commercial Gazette for May 22, 1852, identified the dissolved partnership of "E. and M. A. Parker, High Street, Islington, dealers in china," which very likely is the business named on this bowl. They probably had a Staffordshire potter make earthenware ceramics, known at that time as "china," for their own label. Research may one day identify the identical borders or interior designs used on other wares marked by the potter.
