Comments
The tall, rectangular pipe box has a vertical, open well below a hanging hole in the center. The box has a drawer cavity at the bottom that holds a small drawer. The bottom board of the pipe box is neatly dovetailed in place. The front and side boards are wooden-pegged in place. Two filled peg holes in the front edges of the two side boards are visible above the front board. They suggest that the front board once extended some five inches higher and that the present backward curve of the edge is not original. The outer edges of the two curved sides have small, but crude chamfers that appear out of character with the neatness of the rest of the box. This alteration likely was made to accommodate damage. The back dovetails of the drawer are very tight, whereas the front dovetails are not. There is a small, round burn mark on the drawer bottom in the left rear corner.
