Condition Notes

The left knuckle lamination is missing from the underside of the handhold.  The chair has been stripped of all paint.

Comments

The Windsor high-back or comb-back armchair has nine spindles in the back below a serpentine-shaped crest rail with volute-carved ears.  The arm bow or arm rail ends in carved scrolled knuckles made larger by a lamination glued below.  The outside contour of the handhold is not laminated, as often occurs.   The arm bow is supported in front by a baluster-turned support; three spindles fill the space under the arm.  The seat is ovoid and shallowly dished.  The legs are baluster-turned.  They are secured with two wedges at the tops where they protrude through the seat; they are joined by turned H stretchers.
