Comments
This little molded figurine of a frog resting on an oval base is colored in shades of black and white with a few yellow highlights; the base is yellow. The underside has the name Mary C. Corbit and the date 1850 written in ink. Mary Cowgill Corbit (1848-1923) was the daughter of Daniel and Mary Wilson Corbit; she married Edward Tatnall Warner in 1876 and was instrumental in bringing together family-owned objects of all kinds. She also marked many of them with the names and dates of people she believed owned those objects. In this instance, she identified herself as the owner at age two. The date may not be correct, but it is clear that she considered the frog to be one of her childhood possessions.
