The glaze has flaked off on the inside of the colander.  There areas of loss to the green paint as well.

Provenance

Reportedly used by a member of the Vandegrift or Davis families of Odessa, the colander was purchased at an auction of household and store furnishings of Mrs. Harrison V. Davis, Odessa, on October 27, 1979.

Comments

The colander, which is coated on the inside with a dark brown glaze, was created from a milk pan form by drilling holes in the flat bottom.  Because of flaking around each hole inside the pan, these holes must have been made after firing and before the outside of the pan was painted green.
