The cylindrical box with plain, disk ends has a hinged lid that covers about one-quarter of the cylinder. A hinged and slotted hasp slides over a tab to close the lid. Two long tabs have large circular holes cut into one end and are soldered to the box at the other; they allow the box to be hung from the wall. This box protected candles, that were made of tallow rendered from animal fats, from insects and rodents.
