Comments
This style of mold, often popularly called a Turk's-head mold, used to mold puddings and cakes, features fluted lobes that shape the food made in it. It differs from the vast majority in its smaller size, and the larger versions often have swirled or spiraled lobes. These types of redware molds were made by many different potters over several generations. This particular mold has a brown-colored glaze on it.
Three other similar cake molds of the larger, usual size are in the collection: accession nos. 1971.745, 1973.120, and, 1973.121.
