Comments
This traditionally made barrel is similar to another in the collection, accession no. 2009.87, except that it has additional wood bands holding the staves in place and making the barrel stronger. Barrels were used for all sorts of materials. This one has the name Ed Pfeining and Middletown, Delaware, painted on it and indicating what might be a destination. Research has not identified who Pfeining was, although people of that name or of related spellings lived in the area at the turn of the century.
