Comments
This simply constructed box—nailed together rather than dovetailed—is decorated in the manner of New England federal-style furniture: each side has an outer band with inset quarter rounds in the corners. A yellow line inside those borders suggests light-wood stringing. The lid handle is a drawer brass, as was customarily used. The diamond-shaped escutcheon, however, is cut from sheet brass, as are the hinges that attach the lid. Those hinges are merely nailed in place, rather than secured by screws.
