Condition Notes

One leg is a replacement, another has broken at the bottom of the rail and is now attached with angle irons.  The other legs show evidence of repairs where the side rails are tenoned into them.  The table has been stripped of all finish and refinished.

Comments

This simple walnut stand stands on four splayed and tapered legs square in section.  Relatively deep rails, each with a prominent scratch bead decorating the bottom edge, form a frame for the rectangular top, which is held in place by wooden dowels.  Thin strips of wood nailed to the edges form a bead around the top.  The legs have a deeply-cut bead on the outside corners.  These beads and the large scratch bead on the base of the frame may have been added later, since each is larger than normal.

The simplicity of this table in terms of its design, materials, and construction result in a broad identification of its origin.  The table has also undergone considerable repairs and possible rebuilding.
