Inscription

The hallmarks stamped into the underside are those for Walter Brind with the date letter for 1760-61.  “AHR” in script is engraved onto the body under the spout.

Comments

The initials engraved on the front of the creamer are said to be those of Abraham and Hester Ridgely of Smyrna, Delaware.  If so, they were engraved many years after the creamer was made.  Abraham (1765-1811) married Hester Harris in 1788, the earliest time when the conjoined initials might have been used. Alternatively, the initials may stand for other, unknown owners.

This baluster- or pear-shaped cream pitcher (also called a creamer, cream pot, or milk pot) with a scalloped rim stands on three legs with hoofed feet.  The cast broken- or double-C-scroll handle has acanthus decoration along the upper part.
