Condition Notes

The front legs are missing inlaid bands (forming cuffs) on the front and outer side faces; the rear legs are missing them on the outer sides.  The ivory escutcheon on the upper box is probably a replacement, whereas the wood escutcheon on the drawer appears to be original.  Shrinkage has caused the lid to rest on the front lip, rather than close fully.

Comments

The two-part cellarette has a dovetailed and lidded box or case that stands on a splay-legged base with square-tapered legs.  The legs have somewhat crudely executed single bell-flowers inlaid at the top with stringing down the legs.  The legs had inlaid cuffs, now missing.  A single drawer, made with thick sides, is canted following the splay of the legs.  It has stringing around the border, as does the drawer blade below it.  

The case above has stringing around the front facade, enclosing a four-part star inlaid in striped maple.  The interior is divided into four compartments and a fifth large one across the front.  The lid attaches with iron hinges and is stopped by a brass quadrant that may have been added later.  The case has side handles.
