Comments

The long, narrow candle box has a lid that slides in and out of one end.  The lid is chamfered on three sides allowing it to slide in grooves cut into the box sides.  A notch for the user's finger is cut into the top near the fourth, narrow side.  The box is not dovetailed but simply nailed together.  All of the outer sides are painted black except the bottom.

Candle boxes protected tallow candlesticks, made from animal fats, from rodents.
