Comments
The stoneware jug bears the stenciled label of Henry N. Nutter, along with his business addresses. According to a short article in the Philadelphia Inquirer of January 4, 1896, page 9, Nutter had been so successful in his wholesale liquor business that he was expanding into the building next door, thus adding number 706 to his existing 704 address.
The corn cob fragment stuck into the mouth of the jug in place of a cork seems to be an affectation.
